Description: Instituted in 1961. Became an "institution of national importance" in 1963. IITs are the best engineering schools in India. Admission is selective. Usual admission requirements are a 12 year examination and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), a competitive national examination for admission to all seven IITs.
Some Indian institutions award class on last year; some on honours courses; some do not count failed/repeated courses. We calculate average on all marks/grades. Examinations held at end of semester.

Master's: 1.5-2.5 years after appropriate degree and qualification in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
