Under new system 60 credits per year is a full time load. The dissertation is required for the laurea specialistica.

Postgraduate diplomas of specialization. 1 year after the traditional laurea or, under new system, after the specialized laurea; entry is by admission exam.
Second level master: 1 year after the specialized laurea; entry is by admission exam.
Dottorato di Ricerca (Research Doctorate): 3 years following the traditional laurea or, under the new system, after the specialized laurea and entry by an admission exam.
