To make progress toward a graduate degree, students must meet the Graduate School requirements in addition to the requirements of the department or program. See Graduate School degree requirements.

Specific Credits
Three credits of interdisciplinary courses; 3 credits of basic theory (not development theory); 15 to 25 credits from the major discipline; 20 to 30 credit electives from a secondary discipline; 10 to 15 credits in research design, methodology, and statistics; and a minimum of 6 credits of thesis research.

Language Requirements
Language requirements will vary for each student; generally, the requirement will be minimal competence in one non-native language. The committee can require fluency in another language if they feel it is warranted according to the student's area of interest.
