The Four Lakes Cultural Landscape Tour Thursday, August 30, 2012 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. DeJope (“Four Lakes” in the Ho-Chunk language) has been inhabited since ice sheets receded 12,000 years ago, and is the ancestral home of the Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sauk and Fox, and Potawatomi Nations. The evolving relationship between American Indians and non-Indians can be seen in the development of
campus buildings and landmarks over time. This walking tour will visit Indigenous and campus landmarks and, in interpreting thesignificance of the landmarks, provide an overview of American Indian history and of federal Indian policy leading us to a greater awareness of modern American Indian peoples and nations of the Great Lakes. The tour will begin at the Memorial Union and end at Union South. Attendance is limited. To reserve your place on the tour and learn the exact starting location, RSVP to mgn@grad.wisc.edu.
