|TO:||Tenured Professors and Associate Professors, tenure-track Assistant Professors, and Permanent PIs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison|
|FROM:||Marsha Mailick, Interim Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education|
|SUBJECT:||Procedures and Deadlines for Application|
I am pleased to announce plans for the Interdisciplinary Research Competition. Held last year concurrently with the Fall Research Competition, this academic year, the competition will be held in the spring semester. As with the established Fall Research Competition, this research competition is supported by funds allocated to UW-Madison by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF).
The Spring Interdisciplinary Research Competition is part of an effort to foster innovative scholarship on the UW-Madison campus. Initiated during the 2013-14 academic year, this competition replaces the previously offered opportunity for PIs to submit a multi-disciplinary proposal in addition to a standard application as part of the Fall Competition. To be eligible in this competition, co-PIs from at least two different divisions (i.e. Arts and Humanities, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Social Studies) must apply together. A PI’s division for the purpose of this competition is the same as her/ his tenure home division.
Central criteria of proposal assessment include the extent to which a proposed project:
The competition will open 8:00 am, Monday, December 1st, 2014. All requests for research support as part of this competition must be submitted electronically to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education by 4:30 pm, February 1, 2015. PIs may serve as the lead on only one application, but can be co-investigators on up to two additional applications.
