About the Animal Sciences Program
The UW-Madison Department of Animal Sciences consistently ranks among the best Animal Sciences departments in the country. Degrees include master of science (research or academic track) in animal sciences, and doctor of philosophy with a major in animal sciences or in an interdisciplinary program. The department emphasizes in vivo and in vitro studies that probe relationships at a fundamental mechanistic level.

RAs, the most common appointment in this dept., are hired for 12-months with compensation set on a university-wide basis. The dept. has a few TAs who assist in instruction, preparing materials, directing labs, grading lab exercises and exams, etc. Special fellowships and scholarships are available for outstanding students. Application instructions may be obtained from the Graduate School website. A graduate student maybe employed to assist professors not directly associated with his/her thesis.
