Description: Work with faculty partner to identify units and teaching strategies of interest to shape a project. Semester(s): Fall Institution: Madison College Department(s): Chemistry Intern background needed: Other science backgrounds welcome. This is Freshman-level chemistry. Course: College Chemistry 1 lecture and lab, ~ 65 students Course info: Course time/day: Past has been: Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 – 11:20 am; Labs: Tuesday and Thursday 12:30 – 3:20 pm and Monday and Wednesday 9:30 am – 12:20 pm Challenges a project might address include: Large range of ability levels in the same class Potential guest teaching topics/units: stoichiometry, chemical nomenclature, gas laws, calorimetry, enthalpy, acids, bonding, geometry, intermolecular forces Teaching strategies of interest: Connecting my course to real-world student experiences, active learning techniques, technology-supported learning (online homework, blended learning, flipped classroom, videos, cellphones as clickers, etc.), inclusive teaching strategies Teaching strategies currently used: Contact: Christen Smith, CBSmith@madisoncollege.edu
