Call for Applicants: Delta Research Mentor Training Facilitator Program for Postdocs

Are you a postdoctoral scholar eager to improve your mentoring and facilitation skills? The Delta Research Mentor Training Facilitator Program offers you the opportunity to become a skilled research mentor training facilitator, using the nationally recognized Entering Mentoring curriculum.

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

  • Be a research associate, postdoctoral fellow, or postdoctoral trainee at UW–Madison or affiliated research institutes (e.g., Morgridge Institute, Wisconsin Energy Institute).
  • Have completed or plan to complete the Delta Program’s Research Mentor Training before May 8, 2025.
  • Obtain permission from your primary mentor to participate.
  • Intend to remain in your current position through fall 2025.

Program Overview and Expectations

Each spring, we select two postdoctoral scholars for the Delta Research Mentor Training Facilitator Program. This program enhances your postdoctoral experience by providing a valuable teaching opportunity, space to hone your mentoring skills, and credentials to showcase your commitment to mentoring and supporting others. Additionally, you will receive $1,500 in professional development funds during your second, lead facilitation experience. (These funds will be transferred to your department as 101 funds and used in compliance with university accounting policies.) As a participant, you will:

  • Participate in the in-person Entering Mentoring Facilitator Training on May 8, 2025, from 9 am to 5 pm.
  • Facilitate two research mentor training sessions for graduate students and postdocs, involving 10 hours of direct facilitation time and an additional 20-30 hours of preparation, totaling approximately 40-50 hours.
    • Co-lead (mentored by an experienced facilitator) an online or in person Delta research mentor training in summer or fall 2025.
    • Lead an on-line or in person Delta research mentor training in fall 2025 or spring 2026.

Application Process

The deadline to apply is February 28, 2025. Interviews will be conducted shortly thereafter. To apply, complete the online form below, which includes the following requirements:

  • Specific examples of your teaching, facilitation, and/or leadership experience. This can include leading courses, workshops, lab meetings, journal clubs, or any other relevant activities.
  • Brief description of your research mentoring experience.
  • A letter from your primary mentor granting permission to participate.
