Beth Meyerand appointed Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Rhode Island

Beth Meyerand, associate dean in the Graduate School, has been appointed Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Rhode Island, effective March 1. 

Since July 2024, Meyerand has served as associate dean, providing campus-wide leadership for graduate education. Her portfolio has included graduate admissions and academic planning, faculty mentoring, as well as service on the Graduate School leadership team and the Graduate Faculty Executive Committee. 

“Serving as associate dean has been an incredibly rewarding experience, allowing me to support graduate students and help shape programs that advance graduate education,” said Meyerand. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute and for the support and collaboration that have informed my service at UW–Madison.” 

Graduate School Dean and Vice Provost for Postdoctoral Affairs William J. Karpus praised Meyerand’s contributions and leadership. “Beth is a nationally recognized leader in graduate education whose impact at UW–Madison has been both deep and far-reaching,” said Karpus. “Her dedication to graduate student success, mentoring excellence, and academic leadership has strengthened graduate education across the university.” 

Meyerand previously served as Vice Provost for Faculty and Staff Affairs and Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Department and has held numerous graduate leadership roles, including director of graduate studies for the departments of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. She also directed the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research’s predoctoral and postdoctoral training program and has been co-director of two National Institutes of Health-funded T32 training grants supporting interdisciplinary graduate education. In addition, she served as faculty director of the Science and Medicine Graduate Research Scholars Program. 

Meyerand is a full professor with appointments in Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering and is widely recognized for her leadership in graduate education and mentoring. 

“I am excited to step into the role of Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Rhode Island, yet I will remain profoundly grateful for my time at UW–Madison and the relationships and impact that shaped this chapter,” said Meyerand.
