What programming from Delta helped you become a more effective and evidence-based educator?
Delta introduced me to evidence-based teaching, and then there was no looking back. I included evidence-based teaching in all the classes I taught and revised curriculum for classes even as a TA.
What did you learn about inclusive teaching practices at Delta?
Delta made me realize that inclusion goes beyond race, ethnicity and gender. It is about including each person’s unique views and perspectives, and using them to enhance learning and teaching.
How did Delta help you become a more effective mentor?
I took “Research Mentor Training” offered by Delta and it was one of the best classes I took in my PhD. It prepared me to work well with different types of students and reportees. I feel much more comfortable with mentoring and advising now after mentoring eight professional degree students using principles I learned from this class.
How did the Delta Internship impact your teaching practice?
The Delta Internship Program helped me fine-tune my passion for teaching into practice. It provided me with skills that made me confident in my ability as an educator and mentor. The classes that I took for the certificate were very different from the research-specific classes that I took otherwise in my PhD. These classes pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me into a more confident person, speaker, and teacher.
How did Delta help prepare you for the academic job market?
The Delta Certificate was very well appreciated by all the three R1 schools I interviewed at. They had questions about it and were impressed with the classes I took for that and the internship project as well. I was offered positions at two of these R1 institutes as a tenure-track assistant professor.
